| Taftville takes 3rd place at softball tournament. Taftville joined other local departments in the 1st Annual Community Fire Prevent Softball Tournament. Congratulation to Yantic fire for taking 1st place. The winnners were Yantic 1st Place, Dayville 2nd place and Taftville 3rd place. Taftville also got the sportsmanship award for supporting all the team in the tournament. |

| Omer LaBonte Died October 5, 2008 TAFTVILLE - Omer A. LaBonte, 70, of Taftville, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Born in Woonsocket, R.I., son of the late Aime and Blanche (Despathy) LaBonte. Omer was married on January 9, 1960 to Dolores E. Peloquin in Woonsocket, R.I. They moved to Connecticut in 1961, making their lifelong residence in Taftville. Omer was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy in Woodsocket, R.I. in 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1958 through 1961. He retired as a cable repairman from SNET in February of 1993 with 32 years of service. He served as union representative and convention chairman for many years with the Connecticut Union of Telephone Workers. Omer continued to work, as a property manager at the former Thermos property now Bob's Discount furniture, retiring in 2003. He was also a Life member of the Taftville Fire Department. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ponemah Council #34, past Grand Knight and member of the 4th Degree. Omer proudly served 2 terms as a Councilman on the Norwich City Council from 1997-2001, served on the Board of the TOCCA in Taftville and was a former Taftville Little League coach. |


| Head-On Accident send two to Backus June 13,2008 - Just before midnight, Taftville was dispatched for an auto accident with injuries on RT-12 by the Lisbon town Line. Taftville units arrived to find 2 cars had hit head-on. Injuried occupants were treated and all hazards were controlled. Rt12 was closed for about 2 hours. |
| Inclement Weather Brings Auto vs Pole June 16, 2008 - As the region is seeing it's share of rain, they are also seeing their share of auto accident. This accident happened on Rt-97. The were minor to no injuries. The pole and the auto were damaged. |
| Apartment Fire - Merchants Ave June 21, 2008 - At 22:39hrs Taftville was alerted of a building fire on Merchants Ave. ET-21 and Tower 25 arrived three minutes from time of call with eight firefighters and started to search for occupants of the building. Two occupants were safely evacuated by members of Tower 25 and the crew of Et-21 started initnal fire attack. The fire was controlled in about 15 minutes |
| Auto Fire on Norwich Ave July 25, 2008 - Taftville was dispatched for a auto fire on Norwich Ave. Chief Jencks arrived to find an active engine compartment fire on Shetucket Ave. Since Et-21 was out of service ET-22 responded with six firefighters. UOA a 1 3/4 hoseline was deployed and the fire was contained to the engine compartment and extinguished. The Norwich FMO is investigating. |
| Early Morning House Fire on Merchants Aug 13, 2008 - At 02:04hrs Taftville was dispatched to a house on merchants Ave for smoke in the building. Car-29 arrived minutes later and reported a working house fire. First due crews found numerous fires on two flrs in the 3 stry wd dwelling built in the 1800's. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fires and held the scene for the Norwich PD, Norwich and State FMO's who are investigating the incident. Taftville was assisted by Occum and the Yantic FAST. |
| Auto vs Pole On Merchants Ave Aug 20, 2008 - at 00:50hrs Taftville was dispatched to an auto accident on Merchants Ave. Crews arrived to find a auto vs pole with moderate damage/. Crews treated the injuried and controlled hazards. Units remain on scene for the wreckers and then were directed to the Yantic station for a cover assign due to a building fire in the City |
| Governor Rell Honors Norwich firefighters for their work August 28, 2008 - Governor Jodi Rell honored all Norwich firefighters at the East Great Plains firehouse this morning for their efforts at the April 26 fire at Peachtree apartments Thie is in advance of the State Firefighters Day in Connecticut on September 6th. Also on hand was Mary Brown, who was a victim pulled from a bedroom fire on Hamilton Ave in March. Congratulations to Norwich firefighters Bill Wrobel and Lt. | Norwich Ave Building Fire September 12, 2008 - At 04:50hrs, Taftville was dispatched to a reported structure fire with people trapped at 77 Norwich Ave. Deputy Chief Dupuis arrived and discovered a fire on the 1st flr of a 2.5 stry multi-family home. 20 firefighters from Taftville responded and quickly performed fire suppression, primary search, ventilation and other critical functions to confine the fire to the room and apartment of origin. No one was injuried and the Norwich FMO is investigating. |
| Auto vs Moped September 11, 2008 - Just before 12:30hrs, Taftville was dispatched to a auto vs moped on Harland Rd. Units arrived to find a auto vs moped head-on. Luckily no one was seriously injuried. Taftville firefighters assisted with patient care and controlled the gasoline leak from the moped. Norwich PD is investigating. |
| Taftville to Yantic Commercial Fire Sept 27, 2008 - At around 08:30hrs, Yantic was dispatched to Wawecaus St for a building fire. Units arrived to find a fire in a commercial copper plant in a vat room. Assistance from Taftville, EGP,and the Norwich Foam unit responded to the scene. Crews used foam line to control the hazardous materials fire in the plant. The fire was extinguished and no injuries or evacuation were reported. The Norwich FMO and DEP are investigating |
| Auto vs Tree Oct 11, 2008 - Just after noon on Saturday, Taftville was dispatched for a Auto vs Tree on Maennerchor Ave. Taftville crews responded with 4 units and 15 personnel. Firefighters treated the injuried and controlled hazards from the car. One occupant was transported and two people refused transport. Norwich PD is investigating. |

Agencies from all the Norwich fire companies as well as Norwich PD, Norwich Emergency Management, and Norwich Public Utilities were present. | Auto vs Building Oct 15, 2008 - Just after 20:00hrs Taftville was dispatched to M& M Plaza on Rt-12 for an auto vs building. Units arrived to find a auto that went into a business causing structural damage. No injuries were reported. Taftville firefighters stabilized the building using paratech struts. | Auto Accident with Minor Extrication October 23, 2008 - Just after noon Taftville was alerted to an auto accident w/ injury to Ox Hill rd at Mahan Dr. Car-2, ET-21, Res-2 & SQ-2 responded with 10 personnel. Chief Jencks arrived to find a two car T-Bone accident with one door jammed. ET-21's crew attempted to pry the door with "the irons" until the Hurst Combi-tool was set up to pop the door. The door was popped and the victim was packaged for transport. Norwich PD is investigating. |
