| Apartment Fire at Wequonnoc Village December 1, 2006, As crews had just returned from an EMS run, Taftville and Occum Fire Departments were dispatched to a fire alarm at Wequonnoc Village elderly housing. Et-21 and Tower 25 responded and arrived a mintue later. As Et-21 investigated, a fire was discovered on the #3 floor. The alarm assignment was upgraded bringing in a full assignment from Yantic, Norwich Eng-2,Eng-3 and Tower 1. Et-21 while conducting a primary search of the fire apartment found an unconscious person and removed the victim to safety. Tower 25's crew and Occum assisted in removal of the occupants from the fire floor. Yantic and Norwich units assisted in the evacuation of the rest of the building. All 98 residents were evacuated with only 3 residents requiring medical treatment. it was an outstanding effort by Tafville, Occum, Yantic and Norwich units to ensure all occupants were evacuated safety and the fire was out. The sprinkler system held the fire in check. The Norwich FMO and Norwich PD are investigating the incident |
